Ros was shortlisted for the 2017 Pastel Society competition. Is a kind of weird process. You turn up, with everyone else handing in, all wrapped in bubble wrap, borrow some scissors to cut your picture free, hand it over and gape like a fish as they remove your hangings with a little electric screwdriver, without a by your leave. I carried the cable and screws around in my handbag for weeks. Then a few days later, you have to get back up to London and pick the damned thing up when it has not been shortlisted. You have to be in it to win it, but it ain’t cheap and it ain’t easy…And in my case it ain’t light – note to self, enter something smaller next time.
