Who Inspires Us?

David Shepherd

Why?

He was one of the first wildlife artists Ros was ever aware of. So for her, art was tied with conservation from the very start. His paintings are stunning, and the man made a difference. Ros was lucky enough to meet him, and was awed.

Pip McGarry

Why?

Because his paintings are breathtakingly beautiful. Period. He really is ‘the Great McGarry’

Andy Skillen

Why?

Because he’s one of the best wildlife photographers Ros has ever seen. His work really is at a different level. And he absolutely has the balls to look the animal in the eye –on foot, even if it’s a polar bear. He’s also a really nice guy, who puts is money where his mouth is in promoting conservation in the wild.

Hashim Akib

Why?

Because he is really innovative, he is not stuck doing the same old same old year after year. He takes colour to a new level, but his paintings still have perfect form.

Anne-Marie Horne

Greenpeace activist  (and all the women who put themselves out in front of harpoons…)

Why?

Because as a very young woman Ros heard the story about how she took some crucial photos in Moruroa, and to make sure they did not get seized by the bad guys, she hid the film in her vagina. Ouch. Respect. It was an early lesson that sometimes we have to walk the walk as well as talk the talk. And be endlessly inventive, and use what we have available. And be warriors for what is right.

Van Gogh

Why?

Because Ros learnt a lot about colour from him. And when a painting is not working out, she knows that cut your ear off feeling…
